As part of the ISAF Offshore Safety Regulations all competitors in the Fastnet (and other RORC races) have to carry AIS (Automatic Identification System) - an automatic tracking system used for locating and identifying vessels.
It is our friend on board, as it means a) we can see big tankers/vessels coming our way and assess if there is a risk of collision, b) we can keep an eye on our competitors near by and therefore see how we are doing in comparison and c) it provides a means for our family and friends to keep track of us from shore using a number of different AIS tracking websites.
Please see a live map, showing Castalia's position below - which will update once we're on the move so you can watch us. I've also included some other boats taking part in the race for various reasons:
- Quantum Leap: Another Sunfast 37
- Tokoloshe II: A 42 foot boat, which is regularly out in the Solent and has my friend Ricegirl onboard!
- Rosalba: An IMOCA 60 that will be very fast and happens to have my friend Roger on!
- Venomous: Another 60 footer with my friend Rory on boar
